Starting my own life coaching business after completing my coach training program and continuing to keep it going was made possible with the help of three great strategies mentioned below.
Life coaching focuses on practical solutions by which a client seeks to achieve their desired results. It is not counseling or therapy, as many people unfamiliar with coaching would think. Therapy focuses primarily on a person’s past, trying to seek the causes of the failures and trauma that have placed them in their current situation. Life coaching uses a future focused model or approach where the ultimate goal is to partner with the person, steering them from where they currently are to where they eventually want to be.
I have been a small business owner for several years and when I decided to start up my own life coaching business after completing my coach training program and found out that of all the various strategies that I used, these three things/activities below worked best to help me get started on the path to having a successful coaching business.
Choosing The Ideal Niche/Specialty – is very crucial to the success of your business. As a life coach, it is very necessary that you find the ideal niche for you. I found out that I can turn my previous work and even life experiences as well as educational/ training into a coaching specialty. For example, if your background is in recruiting/human resources, you can become a career coach. If you are a trained nurse or other healthcare professional, you can become a health coach or nutrition coach etc. If you are a foster mom or have mentored youths, you can become a parent coach, life coach for at risk youths etc. When you choose a niche based on your previous work, life experiences or skills, you will be able to reach out to a wider client base.
Social Media Advertising – I cannot emphasize enough the importance of social media advertising in this age we live in. Especially at this time when the COVID 19 pandemic has had many individuals permanently working from home, promoting my business through social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube has been awesome. Since people, both young and old, love watching videos, YouTube videos are the most ideal ways to advertise and grow one’s coaching business. From day one, I have expanded my business with the help of social media marketing and it has truly played a significant role in the success of my business.
Referrals/Word of Mouth – Your friends, family, coworkers are the best advocates for your business. These individuals will help spread the word and create more opportunities for your coaching practice. I have also found that having referral partners works too. There are people within my professional connections for example mental health therapists, health coaches, massage therapists who share office space in the same building with me and also a couple who are in the same networking groups and that we refer clients to each other. This method has been quite successful.
I hope sharing these three strategies that contributed greatly to starting my own life coaching businesses will also be beneficial to you as you get started with yours.
